DONNA DIANE PRETTY (nee CATER)

Donna Diane Pretty of Kincardine, died at the South Bruce Health Centre, Kincardine, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Boyd “Bud” Pretty. Loving mother of Scott Pretty, Kym Dauphinee (Bob), Gayle Pretty (John Inkratas) and Jeff Pretty (the late Charlene). Missed by her grandchildren, Ryan (Lenita), Matt (Daphne), and Adam (Jan); and great-grandchildren, Fiona, Hudson, Lux, Taron, Arwyn, Mavis, William and Oliver. Predeceased by her parents, Jim and Marg Cater; loving grandparents, Nana and Frank Travis; brother, Jim; in-laws, Tom and Olive Pretty; and brother, Tom Pretty Jr. of Sarnia. Fondly remembered by extended family, neighbours and friends. Donna met Bud at the ice rink during a time when couples skated arm-in-arm. It was the beginning of a happy life together, with a wedding June 11, 1955, and a marriage that lasted for 69 wonderful years. They started their family in Sarnia and moved to Kincardine in 1971 during a snowstorm. Here, Donna became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and rose to the rank of Worthy Matron. She just received her 50-year membership pin. Donna loved working for the Kincardine News for 25 years. As sales representative, she paid extra attention to her customers’ needs, with fine attention to detail. There are probably many, many, remembrances of entertaining friends and kids’ friends in the rec room that Bud built; Momsy had a soft heart for all. Mom always made Christmas and Birthdays special, made a mean apple pie, and has left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Donna’s family thanks the staff and medical team at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine, for their kindness and compassionate care. A celebration of Donna’s life will take place in Kincardine at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Adopt a Pet/Pet Rescue, Lucknow, would be appreciated as expression of sympathy.
