EVELYN IRENE PHILLIPS (nee HOY)

Evelyn Irene Phillips (nee Hoy), formerly of RR5, Lucknow, died Aug. 4, 2025, at Fordwich Village Nursing Home. She was 93. Beloved wife of the late Tom Phillips who predeceased her in 2002. Dear mother of Bev Rose (Peter) of Bluevale, Jack (Nancy) of Clinton, Grant (Kim) of Wingham, Brenda Duck (Craig) of Bluevale, Wayne (Kim) of Lucknow, and daughter-in-law, Carol Phillips of Goderich. Proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Survived by her brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Irma Phillips of Goderich, and Sharon Phillips of Goderich. Predeceased by her son, Glen, in 2000; two brothers who predeceased her in infancy, and one granddaughter in infancy. Evelyn was born in Goderich in 1932, and was the daughter of the late Victor and Agnes Hoy. The family moved to a farm near Port Albert where she was raised and worked alongside her parents. She met and married Tom in 1948, and they purchased, and lived on, a farm on the 6th Concession of Ashfield Township until moving to Lucknow in 1969 and purchasing their permanent home in 1972. Along with raising six children with Tom, Evelyn took a custodian position at the Lucknow Legion in the 1970s where she worked for many years. Evelyn was a very supportive member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) group and the Anglican Church, including the role of Treasurer for many years. She enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, sewing, quilting, gardening (vegetables and flowers), bowling and playing cards. She also liked travelling as well, taking many bus trips with family and friends over the years. Evelyn loved to spend time with her family and friends and always enjoyed an opportunity to have a get-together. Visitation will be held at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral which will be conducted Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at 1 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment, Dungannon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Huron County, would be appreciated by the family.
