Born Jan. 21, 1943, in Windsor, Ontario, Lynn was the beloved son of the late James Elmer Pollock and Alice Kathleen (Shewfelt) Pollock of Kincardine, Ontario. He spent 20 years working as a miner before moving into a new chapter as a passionate union advocate. He served as a business agent for the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway, Transport and General Workers for 10 years, then as a national representative for the Canadian Auto Workers for 12 years. He was deeply respected for his unwavering commitment to fairness and the dignity of working people. Outside of his professional life, Lynn was a tireless volunteer and mentor who devoted more than three decades to youth and community sports. His coaching and leadership roles included Holy Angels High School Basketball coach, Girls Middle School Basketball League chairman and co-ordinator, Unique Sports for Special Needs Children co-ordinator and coach, Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League president, Eastern Junior Hockey League secretary-treasurer, Glace Bay Bantam Baseball coach, and Middle School Basketball coach. He was a proud and active member of the Kiwanis Golden K, named Kiwanian of the Year three times, and was honoured with the Zeller Award. Lynn was also a devoted Mason, serving with Masonic Lodge No. 127 for 10 years. Lynn lived his life fully. He loved to travel with his wife, Sharon, and found great purpose in volunteering for many years. If you knew Lynn - and he knew your children - he would never pass by without stopping to ask about them. He was always genuinely interested, and his caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. The funeral was held Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Sydney River United Church, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. A reception followed. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Lynn’s legacy is one of compassion, service and love. He gave endlessly to his community, lifted others with kindness and humour, and led with quiet strength. He was a mentor, a coach, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a husband, and a friend. The family extends sincere appreciation to the VON Adult Day Program, Unit 3B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, 4 North Glace Bay Hospital, and Hospice Cape Breton. Special thanks to Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice Society of Cape Breton County or to a charity of your choice; arrangements entrusted to the Sydney Memorial Chapel. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com. Though he has left this earthly world, Lynn remains forever in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. “Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose.” MY DEAREST UNCLE By Dawn Pollock, Aug. 3, 2025 I'll remember you with fondness As another day is born When the birds sing out their greetings To each new Cape Breton morn. When the fog rolls in off the water And the ships set out to sea I'll listen to their calling As they bring your memory back to me. And when the autumn winds come howling Down the beloved Cabot Trail I'll search for you in the beauty One can find there without fail. And when Rita sings and the fiddles play And the men of the deep shine through Their voices sound like angels And they're calling straight to you. So rest easy now in Heaven And watch over Canada's eastern shore And until we meet again Remember you're loved forever more.
