Couple concerned about closure of Kincardine Day Away program

To the Editor:
RE: "Volunteers, clients, caregivers upset Kincardine Day Away to close at end of September"

As a 70-plus couple living in Kincardine, both with some health issues, we are very concerned about the sudden announcement closing the Day Away program and moving it to Port Elgin.

At present, we do not have need for the services, but we do have acquaintances who do and we are fully aware of the benefits to the caregivers who are able to meet their appointments and run errands, as well as the benefits received by the clients.

Sending these people to Port Elgin for the same program will, no doubt, lead to the loss of a number of volunteers as well clients who are the main beneficiaries. Winter travel in southern Bruce County is a very large concern and often does not happen! More so for the senior population.

The Kincardine Day Away program has been 'blind-sided' by this sudden announcement of closure.

We believe that publicity of the existence of this great program, prior to the dropping of the bomb shell, would have enlightened a number of potential clients and caregivers who are unaware of the facilities and would use it.

Now that it has been made public, please consider giving us a one- or two-month extension to have the opportunity to fill the facility.

Sincerely,
Stuart and Betty Grigg
Kincardine
