Kincardine Bulldogs suffer two losses as PJHL season begins
The Kincardine Bulldogs suffered two losses on the weekend, to Mount Forest and Wingham, as they opened the season in the Pollock Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL).
The Bulldogs travelled to Mount Forest, Friday night, and were slammed, 6-0, by the Patriots.
Kincardine goalie Rowen Cherrett made 31 saves on 37 shots.
Back at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, there was a Bulldogs Alumni game Saturday afternoon, followed by the match between the ‘Dogs and the Wingham Ironmen, Saturday night.
This was the Bulldogs’ season home-opener and the team welcomed Cathy Alcombrack, wife of the late Doug Kennedy, long-time ‘Dogs general manager, and their grandson, Owen, to do the ceremonial puck drop.
Announcer Gord Kemp said that Bulldogs Nation was saddened by the loss of Kennedy who died Aug. 15.
“Doug was instrumental in the return of junior hockey to Kincardine,” he said. “He had a passion for sports, friends, and especially, family. His time as a councillor in Kincardine saw him involved in many community events. He played a big role in doctor recruitment in the area.
“The Bulldogs and the community of Kincardine thank you, Doug, for all the great things you did! You will be missed by so many.”
A moment of silence was then held in memory of Kennedy.
The Ironmen downed the ‘Dogs, 4-2.
Goal-scorers for Kincardine, were Carter Servais and Aiden Yarde, with assists to Jordan Moulton and Caeleb Bowler.
Kincardine goalie Ryan Tanner made 40 saves on 44 shots.
The Bulldogs will try to put a win on the board when they face the Barons, Friday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. in Hanover; and then take on Fergus at the Davidson Centre, Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
