Two short-handed goals lead Ripley Wolves to win over defending champs
The penalty-killers were the story for the now 11-0 Ripley Wolves in their 4-1 win over the defending champion, the Minto 81s, Saturday night at the Ripley Arena.
Tyson Soers and Jarred Colling both scored short-handed goals on the way to the win over the 81s, who fall to 8-2 on the season.
Other goals were scored by Garrett Meurs and Drew Davidson, while assists went to Cody Britton, Todd Hellyer, Mike Howes, Alex Kuntz, Gerrit Satosek, Rob White, and Soers.
Goalie Jason Hamilton was strong, as always, in the Wolves net, stopping 32 of 33 shots.
The Wolves now sit atop the Ontario Elite Hockey League standings with 22 points, and have two games in hand on second-place Seaforth, which sports a 10-3 record for 20 points.
The Wolves will have a holiday home-and-home over the next two weekends with their cross-township rivals, the Lucknow Lancers, who are suffering from a lack of puck-luck and win-less, so far, this season.
Saturday, Dec. 21, Ripley hosts the Lancers, with the puck drop at 7 p.m. Lucknow returns the hosting duties, Saturday, Dec. 28, with a 7:30 p.m. face-off.
