Grey-Bruce Minor League of Curling draws 72 youth to first stop in Kincardine
The Framatome Grey-Bruce Minor League of Curling drew 72 youth to packed sheets at the league’s first stop, Saturday, at the Kincardine Curling Club.
The Kincardine “A” division crushed it, with each team snagging two wins without a scratch, unless you count that extra end draw to the button by Natalie Court! Or a four-ender hit-and-roll by Madeline Hunter to win by one!
The “B” division held its own too, with one win in the bag and one close shave of a loss.
Head coach Peter Newton lit up watching them, noting that the youth throw straighter than most adults, and they’re hooked for life. Volunteers zipped around with cocoa while skips diagrammed shots on napkins – it felt like curling camp crossed with family day.
Ainsdale Golf Course donated an amazing lunch.
“We are so blessed to live in a community that always steps up to support kids’ sports,” said Newton. “Kincardine is well on its way to defend its ‘A’ and ‘B’ division championships from 2024. Our newly-formed ‘C’ division featured three Kincardine teams, but couldn’t hold up against a strong Hanover team, losing by one in the finals. Organizers are eyeing even more next year.”
The next stop on the Framatome Grey-Bruce Minor League of Curling is Dec. 14 in Durham.
