About 100 Grades 3-6 students at Huron Heights Public School in Kincardine have taken to the stage to perform the kids’ version of Disney’s “Frozen,” and if Tuesday’s dress rehearsal is any indication, it is a stellar production.
The singing and dancing are superb, whether it’s just a few kids on stage, or a large ensemble.
The stand-outs are Eva Thompson as Queen Elsa and Ruby Wreford as Princess Anna who bring an incredible amount of confidence and talent to their roles.
Myles Fraser is a delight to watch as goofy Olaf, the Snowman, and Jack Slade has perfected the role of Hans, the selfish prince.
Rounding out the major roles, are Xander Stopford as King Agnarr, Lorelei McCarthy as Queen Iduna, Poppy Willits as Young Anna, Ellie Peters as Young Elsa, Hailey Aldridge as Middle Anna, Ainsley Graham as Middle Elsa, Leo Zafiriu as Kristoff, and Robyn Ridley as Sven.

“Frozen” is the tale of Princess Elsa of Arendelle who has naturally-occurring magical powers of ice and snow. Before she can learn to control her powers, she injures her sister, Anna, and her parents close up the castle. They are later killed at sea and Elsa becomes queen. On her coronation day, she opens the castle gates to the public and Anna falls in love with Prince Hans who just wants to marry Anna, get rid of Elsa and rule Arendelle.
When Elsa objects to her sister’s marriage and lashes out, her powers are revealed and she is accused of witchcraft. She flees to the North Mountain and builds an ice palace. Anna searches for her sister, meeting Kristoff, Olaf and Sven along the way. She finds Elsa but her sister’s fear makes her hit Anna with ice, accidentally freezing her heart.
As Anna slowly freezes to death, Kristoff discovers that only "an act of true love" can thaw her heart. Hans turns out to be of no use, but Elsa is the one who saves her sister. Realizing love is the key to controlling her powers, Elsa ends the winter and the citizens of Arendelle quickly accept her as queen. Hans is arrested and exiled for treason and attempted assassination. The sisters mend their relationship, and Elsa promises never to lock the castle gates again.
Besides the 100 students on stage, there are 35 students on the crew, along with a number of staff and adult volunteers assisting them.
Praise to director Carol Reid and music director Heather Weber for putting together such a fabulous show.
“Frozen” is open to the public for three performances: Dec. 10 at 6 p.m., and Dec. 11 at Noon and 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Dec. 12 has been reserved as a snow date, if necessary. Admission is by donation at the door. All proceeds go to support future productions.
