Purple Grove news
After a week with three storm days and a sudden start to winter, guess we better get our vehicles ready for the season! An emergency travel kit never goes astray - hats, mittens, boots, shovel, blanket, snacks and booster cables sure come in handy. And what about that thunder and lightning last week too? The old-timers used to say that indicated a heavy winter to come!

Even so, the Purple Grove Women's Institute ladies met at Marilyn Reid's home, Wednesday afternoon, for some crafting activities led by Sandra Husk. Janet Nixon had a reading about Christmas. Lunch was provided by Janet Nixon and Marilyn. The group talked about Christmas plans and looking forward to the family Christmas gathering and parties. Thanks, ladies, for a great time!

Friday, the Ripley and District Horticultural Society held its annual general meeting and Christmas banquet. The new executive was installed and everyone is looking forward to the plans for next year’s program.

Thanks to the Ripley-Huron Community School for the poinsettia fund-raiser, providing some lovely poinsettias for our homes and decorating!

And Friday evening, folks were able to get to the Purple Grove Christmas party for a lovely visit with neighbours and friends. Thanks to Cheyanne and Sierra Collins for the entertainment and Carrie Murray and Lorraine Mcilhargey for organizing the event. Welcome Sean, Hanna, and Eva to our neighbourhood!

Thank you, from the Ripley Agricultural Society, to everyone who brought winter coats and apparel for the Share the Warmth drive, to the Agridome, Saturday morning.

The Formosa Christmas Lights are shining brightly now, and well worth the drive through the village - it was just spectacular.

Rosewood RVilla hosted the Ripley Christmas Celebration, Saturday afternoon at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre. There was a great turn-out, with cookie-decorating, skating and Santa and Mrs.
Claus were there, of course!

The Kincardine Community Singers will host their Christmas concert, "Peace and Light, this weekend, so we are sure looking forward to that!

Jim and Fran Farrell enjoyed last week with Chris Farrell and sons at Stony Mountain, Manitoba, for some hockey games and an early family Christmas. They really don't have snow at all yet!

Happy belated birthday to Joyce Farrell, Carrie Murray, Carrie Manary, Jenn West, Pat Martin and Loretta Smith! Jim de Boer’s and Ruth Anne Robinson's birthdays are this weekend.

We extend our sympathy to the families of Mary Nelson of Lucknow, Marion McDonald of Kincardine, and Marjorie Middelkamp and Darrin Grubb of Ripley, and many others who are grieving at this time.

We also extend our get well wishes to everyone under the weather in the neighbourhood! Looking forward to seeing you out again soon!
