Ripley Wolves wrap up 2025 with 5-1 win over Lucknow Lancers
The Ripley Wolves put a bow on 2025 and moved into first place in the North Division of the Ontario Elite Hockey League, with 22 points after a 5-1 win over Lucknow, Saturday night, at the Ripley Arena.
Evan Visser led the way with two goals, while singles went to Cody Britton, Garrett Meurs and Gerrit Satosek.
Assists went to Jordan Moulton (2), Jeff Alcombrack (2), Britton (2), Keaton McLaughlin, Kaden Hoggarth, goalie Jason Hamilton, and Satosek.
Hamilton stopped 27 of 28 shots for the win in the Wolves net.
The Wolves are on the road for two games next weekend, visiting the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Friday, Jan. 2, for an 8:30 p.m. puck drop, and the Minto 81s, Saturday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m.
The Wolves return home, Saturday, Jan. 10, taking on Elmvale at 7 p.m. It's Jersey Night, so kids get in free if they wear the jersey of their favourite team or their own hockey jersey. Sunday, Jan. 11, the Lucknow Lancers return to Ripley for a 2:30 p.m. game. Don't miss the Under-5 game at intermission; it's always a great show!
Meanwhile, the Wolves notched two wins and a loss in OEHL play over the past couple of weeks.
They completed a weekend sweep of their closest rivals, drubbing Saugeen Shores, 8-2, Friday night, Dec. 19, and came back from Lucknow with a 7-3 win, Saturday, Dec. 20.
Friday night, Ethan Skinner's natural hat-trick in the second period and a seven-point night for Cody Britton paced the Wolves to the win.
Joining Skinner on the scoresheet, were Garrett Meurs (2), Britton (2), and Carter Servais. Assists went to Britton (5), Tyson Soers (2), Jeff Alcombrack (2), Gerrit Satosek (2), Servais (2), Meurs (2), and Jordan Moulton.
Goalie Jason Hamilton shut the door after allowing two goals in the first on his way to the win.
Saturday night, the Wolves out-shot Lucknow, 45-18 and brought home a 7-3 win.
Meurs led the way with two goals, while singles went to Evan Visser, Taylor Woolcott, Dawson Fahrer (short-handed), Servais, and Britton. Assists went to Meurs (3), Jordan Beisel (2), Mike Howes, Jarred Colling, Derek Skinner, Britton, Servais, Fahrer, and Visser.
Garrett Golley was the winning goalie for the Wolves, stopping 16 of 18 shots.
Saturday night, Dec. 13, the Wolves couldn't overcome a slow start – giving up five goals in a wild first period – and fell 7-5 to the Georgian Bay Applekings.
The Wolves managed to pull within one, with seven minutes remaining in the third period, but couldn't get the tying marker on the way to just their second loss of the season.
Goal-scorers, were Dan Nicoloff, Kyle Durrer, Garrett Meurs, Cody Britton and Kaden Hoggarth. Assists went to Ethan Skinner, Jordan Moulton, Logan Swanton, Austin Waite, goalie Jason Hamilton, Hoggarth, Meurs and Britton.
Garrett Golley allowed five goals on 29 shots in the first period and was relieved by Hamilton for the second period. Hamilton allowed one goal in the second and the Applekings sealed it with an empty-netter with seconds left on the clock.
