Two local hockey teams reach semi-finals at Kincardine Silver Stick
The U13B Tier 2 West Coast Whitecaps (local rep team) and the U13 Kincardine Kinucks Local League (LL)1 team made it to the semi-finals at the Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament, held Dec. 27-29 and Jan. 2, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, the Tiverton Sports Centre and the Ripley-Huron Community Centre.
The Whitecaps defeated the South Grey Spartans, 5-1, the Tavistock Titans, 5-0, and the Woolwich Wildcats, 3-0. In the quarter-finals, they downed the Shelburne Wolves, 1-0, and advanced to the semi-finals against the Kitchener Junior Rangers, losing a close game, 2-1.
The Kitchener Junior Rangers went on to the championship final against the Grey Bruce Bulls who won, 5-4, advancing to the International Silver Stick in Forest.
Meanwhile, the Kinucks defeated the Owen Sound Junior Attack, 5-1, lost to the Listowel Cyclones, 3-1, and beat the South Bruce Blades, 3-1. In the quarter-finals, they edged the Goderich Sailors, 3-2, and advanced to the semi-finals where they faced the Saugeen Shores Storm, losing 3-0.
The Storm went on to the championship final against the Saugeen Valley Steelheads who won, 4-3, advancing to the International Silver Stick.
In the U15B Tier 2 championship, the Midwest 49ers won against the South Grey Spartans.
In the U15 LL championship, the Minto Mad Dogs won against the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs.
