Off the Broom: Brian Regier's team wins men's bonspiel
Another men’s bonspiel and another scare with the weather. Roads were closed and the snow kept on coming but a day before the spiel, it was mostly back to normal. There were 16 teams entered and the format was three six-end games. Coming out on top in the early draw, was the Ripley team of Brian Regier, Jeff McTavish, Scott Van derHogan and Dusty Hughes. Another Regier team, this time Derek, finished in second place. Owen Sound’s Scott Mooney took third, followed by Sam Turcotte, Lucas Haugh, Brian MacEachern, Mark Patterson (Blenheim) and Andrew Armstrong.
The late draw winner, was the local team skipped by Pete Newton, with Chris Weishan, Tim Church and Seamus Pitfield, who bested second-place Les Shane’s team to take first-place honours. Other Kincardine teams in order of finish, were Scott Kennedy, Eric Gravel, Pat Pringle, Dan Norman, Don Shane (Durham) and JD Matheson.
Convener Cathy Alcombrack thanks all the women and men who volunteered their time to make it a special day. Also to sponsors Kim Rankin of Dairy Queen, Miller Insurance, Kincardine Golf Course and Kincardine Quick Lube, for their tickets and gift certificates. A reminder that this bonspiel filled up very early so keep in mind that the date for next year is Jan. 2, 2027.
