Dr. Aletta Bell, formerly of Tiverton area, dies at the age of 88
Dr. Aletta Grace Bell, who grew up in the Tiverton area, died Jan. 20, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born March 9, 1937, she went to high school in Kincardine.

She served faithfully as a medical missionary for more than 35 years in India, and was "Mother Ji" to many around the world.

Deeply missed by her "Australian daughter," Nicky McMaster, as well as her family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, at 1 p.m., at the Salvation Army Citadel, 555 Springbank Drive, London, Ontario.

Nicky wrote a biography about Aletta's life, "The Twelve Stones of Grace," which was published last summer. If you are interested in a copy of this book, contact Marg Hedley at a.m.hedley@bmts.com.

  1. As a young teenager attending Hope Baptist Church that supported Dr. Aletta Bell, I marvelled at her perseverance, wisdom and grace as a faithful missionary in Inda. My parents told me many stories about her work and I met her several times when she visited London. My deepest sympathy to family and friends. May you find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish always, and strength in the companionship of those who share your loss.
