SVCA issues water safety statement due to hazardous conditions around watercourses
The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) has issued a water safety statement due to hazardous conditions around watercourses in the watershed.

Multiple rounds of rain this past week have caused water levels to increase in all local streams and rivers. An additional 10-15 millimetres (mm) of rain is forecast for tomorrow (April 18). Following Saturday’s rain, drier conditions are expected to begin.

While water levels in local watercourses have peaked and are now steadily dropping, they are expected to remain high throughout the weekend. Additional pooling of water in low-lying areas may also occur following Saturday’s rainfall.

Hazardous conditions exist around all local watercourses and low-lying areas. Stream banks may be slippery and unstable, and the water is very cold and fast-moving. The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around local waterways. Families are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses.

SVCA staff will be closely monitoring watershed conditions and will provide an update if conditions change. This message will remain in effect until Tuesday, April 21, at Noon, unless updated otherwise.
