​NII releases annual report focused on building national reach

The Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) has released its 2025 Annual Report, Building our strength at home, speaking to the organization’s expanded reach over the past year and demonstrating that local action, done with purpose and partnership, can drive national impact.

From the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties to Ottawa and beyond, the member-based not-for-profit is building key initiatives to help Canada’s nuclear sector succeed.

Last year, this work took shape under three pillars:
 

• Sector transformation: The NII delivered process improvement activities through projects that enhance quality and make life better for workers — from significant labour savings through accrual reporting to more efficient workflows for delivering nuclear-grade components. Last fall’s Innovation Day helped advance the adoption of emerging technologies, showcasing A.I.-based solutions to improve infrastructure inspections.
• Skill development: The NII continued its dynamic education outreach, engaging more than 7,000 students through 81 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)-focused events, hands-on skilled trades programming and targeted initiatives. The team helped strengthen workforce pathways through teacher and guidance counsellor engagement, as well as training and networking opportunities, such as the women in trades Built to Lead event, which saw more than 350 students explore careers in a range of sectors.
• Industry voice: The NII advanced its role as a national clean energy thought leader in a diverse range of public policy and awareness work, from policy recommendations and a Canada-United States statement on energy co-operation to big questions facing Canada’s clean energy economy — including why data centre growth needs nuclear and building support for new nuclear development.

“What made 2025 remarkable was the range — operational efficiencies, government relations, primary research, STEM engagement — and how the NII continues to drive change,” said Jessica Linthorne, NII president and chief executive officer. “Our founding members and network of partners make all of this possible because they recognize the value of working together to achieve a common purpose: to lead Canada into its clean energy future.”
