Oscar "Trip" Trepanier of Kincardine has been inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame - one of several names listed on the Frank and Zine Mann Honour Roll, as a Master Classic Inductee.
Though his 1969 Wallaceburg Red Devils senior lacrosse team was inducted in 1996, Trepanier was personally inducted Jan. 30, 2016, for his outstanding contribution to the sport of lacrosse for Wallaceburg's Red Devils.
Trepanier was a member of the Intermediate team that won the Ontario championship in 1952, followed by a second intermediate title in 1959. A decade later, in 1969, he was front and centre for one of the greatest rides in Wallaceburg sporting history.
As captain of the Red Devils that year, he scored 39 goals and added 27 assists for 66 points in 24 games. In 11 playoff games, he scored 13 goals and nine assists.
The following year, Trepanier moved his family to Kincardine for work reasons. Though he took up curling, golf, baseball, and often said he probably would have been a pretty good ball player, he didn’t leave his love of lacrosse behind in Wallaceburg.
When his sons, Phil and Paul, took up the sticks in Kincardine, he was there to encourage, watch and cheer them onto their All-Ontario Championship win in Kincardine’s and their first year of play.
Trepanier loved hunting and fishing and was a skilled carpenter. He also helped in the construction of the Somerhill Golf Course, located between Kincardine and Tiverton, where on June 6, 2006, he recorded a Hole in One on the 9th hole. He was a resident of Kincardine for 45 years.
Sadly, he passed away March 20, 2015.
“Congratulations on a Great Ride ,Trip!”
