(GODERICH, ON) - Members of the Huron County OPP assisted at a bicycle safety event in the Town of Goderich, Saturday, June 6.
Partnering with Goderich Canadian Tire, the Town of Goderich, The Miller Group, Goderich Environment Committee, and New Hope Bicycles (Ride Smart Program), the Bicycle Safety Day was geared toward youth, aged five to 10.
A course was set up for kids to show their cycling skills and learn about safe bicycle operation in their communities. Volunteers helped with bike-fitting, minor bicycle tune-ups, and course safety.
A free barbecue lunch for participants was a hit, and prizes were handed out to some lucky winners!
"The weather co-operated and everyone had fun," said constable Craig Soldan, community engagement officer with the Huron OPP. "The highlight for me was seeing the smiles on the kids' faces as they gained confidence through the course. One little rider went through the course at least 30 times! Some great memories were made that day.
"Thanks to everyone who was involved in the planning, set-up, and take-down. This was an excellent team effort, and we look forward to hosting another cycling safety day next year!"
