Thermometer shows more than $800,000 raised for enhancements at new KDSS

It was an exciting moment Saturday afternoon, as a crowd gathered in the cafeteria at Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) to hear principal Don Burns, chairman of the BUILDKD-plus Campaign, announce that $821,500 has been raised, to date.

The announcement was part of the "Back to KDSS" event, held at the school, featuring music by Jocelyn Leidy's School of Music in the cafeteria, a Kincardine Lions barbecue, a yearbook display in the library, and a magnificent "KDSS Through the Decades" timeline display throughout the hallways. There were also a Kid Zone, photo booth, a merchandise table, and "March to a Million" donations accepted in the office.

Just prior to the announcement of the funds raised so far, Burns said the "Back to KDSS" event was an opportunity to invite people back to the school and take a stroll down memory lane, as well as a chance to encourage donations to the $4.5-million campaign for the new school, set to open in September, 2028.

Burns said the "March to a Million" campaign has raised $140,000 in 100 days, while the entire amount raised, including corporate donations, amounts to $821,500.

The campaign committee then went outside and Burns put a length of red tape on the thermometer, indicating the amount raised, to date.

There are more fund-raising events slated, including the "From Bach to Beatles" concert, June 25, at 7 p.m, at Kincardine United Church; the football team fund-raiser on Aug. 22; and a KDSS cook-off.
