4th annual Community Ski Loppet draws about 30 skiers
About 30 skiers gathered at Stoney Island Conservation Area to take part in the 4th annual Community Ski Loppet, Family Day, Monday morning, Feb. 15.
Delayed because of warm weather all through January, the event was originally going to be a jaunt along the trails, led by members of the Kincardine Cross-Country Ski Club.
However, Jennie Evans of Kincardine prompted organizers to continue the ski races held every year, sponsored by Darrel Perry of Penetangear in downtown Kincardine.
This year's award winners were:
- Junior - Remco Vandervlies of Teeswater
- Open - Erik Vandervlies of Teeswater
- Masters - Jana Mika of Kincardine
- Youngest skier - Abby Norcliffe, 4, of Georgetown
Organizers were pleased to see a solid foundation of snow for the loppet - the first real amount of snow of the winter season.
