Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb is happy to announce that the 3rd annual Hometown Heroes “Raise a Little Health” charity hockey game will take place July 21, 2016.
Since 2014, the game has raised $90,000 for three community partners: the Goderich-Huron YMCA’s Strong Kids, Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health, and Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.
Players joining the roster include: current NHL’ers for the Buffalo Sabres, NHL All-Star Ryan O’Reilly and Cal O’Reilly; and former NHL’er and Stanley Cup winner, Boyd Devereaux. Other players participating in the game will be announced throughout the spring.
The goal is to raise $50,000 for these three organizations that are working to improve the health and wellness of so many in the community.
“The outpouring of support from our community for the past Hometown Heroes games has been incredible," says Lobb. "We hope to keep building on our past successes and continue to raise money through the game of hockey to support three different organizations that work very hard to make sure our community is healthy.”
"Alexandra Marine and General Hospital appreciates being one of the three recipient organizations to again receive funding from the Hometown Heroes ‘Raise a Little Health’ Charity Hockey Game, July 21," says Bill Thibert, chief executive officer. "We are very much looking forward to a great evening of fun and entertainment! Thank you so very much for supporting your local hospital to help fund the equipment needs in our emergency and critical care areas.”
“Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is delighted to be a part of the 2016 Hometown Heroes ‘Raise a Little Health’ Charity Hockey Game, now in its third year," says president Sheila Schuehlein. "As a member of the organizing team, working with Ben Lobb and Brian O’Reilly, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and the YMCA in Goderich, we are excited to help promote this locally-driven and fun event. We are thankful to be one of the three recipient organizations to receive the funding raised which helps support innovative community projects and partnerships to improve the health and quality of life of our rural residents.“
"The YMCA provides opportunities for children and young people to reach their potential, achieve their goals and improve their lives," says Kathi Lomas-McGee, senior vice-president operations for YMCAs across Southwestern Ontario/general manager of Goderich-Huron YMCA. "Last year, one in six kids coming to the YMCA required financial support, and that need continues. The YMCA Strong Kids Fund-raising Campaign helps to eliminate the financial barriers that children face to participate in recreation, and without the community's support for our campaign, we would not be able to serve these children.
"It's a privilege to partner with Gateway Centre for Excellence and Alexandra Marine and General Hospital as recipients of the proceeds from the 3rd annual Hometown Heroes charity hockey game. We are excited to host this event once again at the Maitland Recreation Centre and look forward to seeing everyone at the game!"
The charity hockey game runs Thursday, July 21, with doors open at 6 p.m., the opening ceremony at 6:45 p.m., and puck drop at 7 p.m., at the Maitland Recreation Centre, 190 Suncoast Dr. E., Goderich.
Tickets are available at Lobb’s offices in Goderich and Port Elgin, Gateway Centre in Seaforth, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Gift Shop, and Goderich-Huron YMCA.
