Ladies' and men's club champs determined at Ainsdale; and other results

Denise Tighe won the ladies and senior ladies championship at Ainsdale Golf Course, Aug. 14, while Derek McBride won the men's club championship Aug. 15.

Men's club winners include: Derek McBride (left), champion; Marv Glazier, senior men's champion; Derek Regier, A Flight; Bill Wood, B Flight; Keegan Newsham, C Flight; and Brian Rhody, D Flight

 

LADIES' LEAGUE
 

Someone said we need rain,  but the Ainsdale ladies didn’t think that they need quite as much as they got Tuesday, Aug. 16. There were a few hardy soles who braved the elements and their scoring was up there with the best. Ask Marianne Irwin how she scored her birdie and carded a personal best on the front nine.

 

The flight winners for Stableford points were:

  • A  Barb Grubb 34
  • B  Jennifer Lawrie 37
  • C  Marlene Morrow 28
  • D  Heather Struthers 30
  • E Marianne Irwin  48

 

The low putters by flight were:

  • A  Maureen Peet 14
  • B  Jennifer Lawrie 15
  • C Janice Matchett 15
  • D Heather Struthers 18
  • E  Marianne Irwin 16

 

The sponsored-hole winners for closest-to-the-line, were:  Barb Grubb,  Jennifer Lawrie,  Beth Mimnagh,  Erin Kelly,  Muriel Cochrane.
 

The long drives were blasted by Maureen Peet,  Nancy Stewart,  Marlene Morrow, Diane Small,  Muriel Cochrane.
 

The long putt went to Nancy Turcotte, while the closest-to-the-sprinkler-head. was awarded to Nancy Stewart.


SENIOR MEN'S RESULTS
 

Following a day of rain, a beautiful, sunny morning greeted the senior men for their weekly scramble at Ainsdale, Aug. 17.

The team of John Kuyvenhoven, Ted Carthy, Harry Hicks and Bill Pike topped the field with a minus-two score on the front nine.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Dan MacDonald on No. 3 and Dr. Roger Thomson on No. 8.
