Season wraps up for ladies at Ainsdale; senior men decide winner with putt-off

Tuesday, Sept. 20, marked the closing of the Ainsdale Ladies League's 2016 season which was capped-off with the annual celebration of the "Dimpled Ball."
 

The evening began with a social hour at 5 p.m., continued with a roast turkey dinner including all the trimmings at 6 p.m., followed by the year-end awards and a pick from the prize table for every member of the league.

 

On behalf of all the ladies of the league, Denise Tighe expressed a sincere thank you to the 2016 sponsors: Hurontel, MacG's, Meridian Credit Union, Matchett Financial Services, Dykeman's No Frills, Dairy Queen, and Ainsdale Golf Course.

 

Christine MacDonald asked Colleen Douglas to stand and be recognized for her efforts in setting up the prize table,  and Wendy Gardner for providing the floral centrepieces on the tables.

 

The year-end awards for Stableford points winners in each flight were presented to  Barb Grubb,  Colette LePage,  Jeanette Bellan,  Marg Firth  and Joanna Malott.

 

The Ace of Aces team trophy was awarded the to the team captained by Barb Grubb. The teams for the Ace of Aces competition are assembled from the qualifiers during the year and is a nine-hole, stroke play event. The Ringer Board is a comparison of stroke play scores between the first round of the season compared to the accumulated best scores on each hole for the remainder of the season.
 

The winners were:  A flight Kim Catto with 26 strokes improvement,  B flight Wendy Gardner 29 strokes,  C flight Barb McBride 29 strokes,  D flight Shelley Pollock 32 strokes,  E flight Joanna Malott  33 strokes improvement.

 

A few noteworthy items are:  the most improved player in the league was Jeanette Bellan with a 10-point improvement on her index, Barb Grubb carded three birdies, Heather Struthers recorded four chip-ins, 18 ladies can say they did not put a single ball in the water all season, Marlene Morrow marked a stroke play score less than 100 for the first time this season. 
 

There were two ladies who played every week, even through the steamy hot temperatures and the one and only rainy day.

SENIOR MEN'S LEAGUE

 

The Senior Men at Ainsdale decided their winners in a putt-off, Wednesday.

The team of John Kuyvenhoven,  Kenton Ehgoetz,  Jim Hamnett and Percy Courtney carded a minus-two and prevailed to win in the putt-off over the team of Blayne Shewfelt,  Dennis Curley,  Bruce Sine and Roy Douglas.

Finishing in third place was the team of Dave Grant, Dan MacDonald,  Harry Hicks and Harold Maurer.
 

The winner of closest-to-the-pin, were Brian Rhody at No. 12, and Harry Hicks at No. 17.
