Bulldogs lose two, win two in PJHL hockey action
The Kincardine Nicol Insurance Bulldogs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) improved their record with two wins on the weekend, after two losses the previous weekend.
Home to the Goderich Flyers, Sept. 16, the 'Dogs held the lead until the final frame, when they allowed three unanswered goals, to lose, 4-3. Goal-scorers were Mike Fiegehen from Keegan McLelland and Hunter Robins-Gibbons; Tyler Fregona from Dalton Hnatko, and Hnatko, unassisted.
In Mitchell, Sept. 18, the Bulldogs lost, 4-1, to the Hawks, with Fregona scoring the lone goal from Jesse Gunn and Robins-Gibbons.
The 'Dogs spent this past weekend on the road and notched two wins.
Friday night, they romped over Wingham, 6-1.
Fiegehen opened the scoring early in the first from Gunn. Minutes later, Gunn scored from Fiegehen and Derrick Bernath.
The 'Dogs then opened season on the Ironmen, firing in four goals to one in the second. Bernath worked the powerplay, scoring from Mike Osadca and McLelland; Gunn scored, also on the powerplay, from Robert White and Fiegehen; Fiegehen scored, unassisted; and Tyler Sutter scored from Fregona and Hnatko.
With neither team scoring in the third, the game ended 6-1 for Kincardine.
In Mount Forest, Saturday night, the Bulldogs blanked the Patriots, 2-0, with goals scored by Sutter from Jordan Van Haelemeesch; and Bernath with an unassisted empty-net goal at the end of the third.
The 'Dogs travel to Walkerton to take on the Hawks, Friday, Sept. 30; and are back at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, Saturday, Oct. 1, to take on the Mitchell Hawks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
