Kincardine Minor Soccer presents new indoor nets to KDSS
Kincardine Minor Soccer has purchased a set of brand new Futsal (indoor soccer) goal nets designed for use in the gym at Kincardine District Secondary School.
Members of Kincardine Minor Soccer and the Futsal players, coaches and mentors gathered Friday night in the KDSS gym for the official presentation.
This also marks the start of the 2016-17 Futsal season which runs November to March, Friday nights, from 6:30-8 p.m., at KDSS.
Futsal coach John Risorto said the new nets are a wonderful addition to the sport. "Before, we just had old PVC plastic pipe nets. These are great for us and for the school to use."
Friday night Futsal has been operating since 2014, he said. On average, there are 30 players per night, and the cost is $2 per player.
Joining Risorto are coaches Adam Carr and Krista Troke, and mentors Julia Di Castri and Nathan Troke. The group of players is divided by age and ability, into four teams, said Risorto, and those teams are rotated every five minutes throughout the night.
The nets, valued at just over $3,000, have solid steel goal posts and are attached to the floor. They were donated to the Futsal program as another way for youth of all ages in the community to enjoy playing soccer, even during inclement weather.
KDSS principal Mark Ozorio welcomes the addition of the new nets. "These are good for the school and for the community. They will certainly be used by the soccer program here because soccer season begins in May and the weather isn't very good prior to that for practice. And the community will use them Friday nights for the indoor soccer program."
