Magnificent display of nativities at the Walker House in Kincardine
The Walker House in Kincardine is awash in a colourful display of nativity scenes from all over the world.
A fund-raiser in support of Kincardine's oldest building and the Paddy Walker Heritage Society, the Nativities Display is a remarkable sight, featuring the familiar grouping of Joseph and Mary, the Baby Jesus, the Shepherds and Wise Men and the Angel, in so many different forms, from crystal to Belleek to carved wood.
Tina Clift of Kincardine, one of the organizers of the display and a nativities collector, said there are about 1,000 nativities at the Walker House, owned by three collectors.
"We used to take them to the display held every year in Walkerton," she said. "This show features a White Room, an International Room, vintage nativities, children's, modern, carved, plates, Belleek from Ireland, wax candles, Waterford crystal, acrylic, hand-painted glass, stained-glass, and much more."
Clift said the organizers are testing the waters to see if there is community support for this type of display, as a fund-raiser for the Walker House.
"For those of us who created it, this is a spiritual gift to the community," she said. "If there was support from the community, we would do this again. I have been collecting nativities for the past 10 years and I truly enjoy displaying them."
It is a gorgeous, glorious display, on now until Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Walker House, 235 Harbour Street, Kincardine. The exhibit is open 1-9 p.m. daily, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Entrance is by donation.
