Wolves edge Lancers in shoot-out; sit in seventh place in league
The Ripley Wolves edged the Lucknow Lancers, 5-4, in a shoot-out, Friday night at the Ripley Arena. The Wolves now sit in seventh place out of 14 teams, in their division in the WOAA Senior A league, with a record of nine wins and six losses.
Friday night, the Wolves took a commanding lead, scoring three goals in the first period: Dylan Sayle fired in a shot from Paul Stewart and Tyler McCarthy; Cody Britton scored from Brent Walton; and Ryan Dudgeon scored from Tyler DeVos and Tyson Soers.
Jamie Miller worked the powerplay to score for the Lancers midway in the second period, assisted by Nash Aitchison and Chase Chapman, to make it a 3-1 game. But Brett Catto put the Wolves ahead again, assisted by Britton and Walton.
The Lancers stabbed through the Wolves' defence and fired in three goals in the third, to make it a 4-4 game at the end of regulation time. Scorers were: Mitch Kuik from Ean Moffat and Matt McClinchy; Moffat from Miller and Aitchison; and Moffat's hat-trick goal from Miller and McClinchy.
With no scoring in overtime, it came down to a shoot-out, with Britton scoring the winning shot for the Wolves.
Wolves goalie Kurt Edwards made 37 saves on 41 shots, while Lucknow goalie Ben Dorscht made 30 saves on 35 shots.
The Wolves have a break now until next weekend when they face the Elora Rocks, Saturday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 p.m., at the Ripley Arena; and then take on the Mapleton-Minto '81s, Sunday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m., also at the Ripley Arena.
