Wolves fall to Huron East Centenaires, 8-7, in overtime
The Ripley Wolves played their second overtime game of the "A" round-robin playoffs, and lost a wild one, 8-7, to the Huron East Centenaires, Sunday in Seaforth.
Seaforth opened the scoring midway in the first period, but Ripley's Shawn Stewart evened things up minutes later, assisted by Jared Colling and Tyler McCarthy. Seaforth added two more to end the period, leading 3-1.
The Wolves came out firing on all cylinders in the second frame, scoring three unanswered goals. Nick Locking scored from Drew Davidson; Travis VanGaver had an unassisted marker; and Locking scored from Jeremy McQuillin, with just one second remaining to give Ripley a 4-3 lead.
Colling added his second of the night early in the third period, from Shawn Stewart; and minutes later, Cody Britton scored from Davidson and Jordan Turcotte, to give the Wolves a commanding 6-3 lead.
However, Seaforth wasn't finished yet, scoring another marker, before Locking had an unassisted, short-handed goal for Ripley, making it 7-4 late in the final frame. Seaforth then fired in three quick goals to tie the game at 7-7 in regulation time.
Minutes into the overtime period, Seaforth scored on the powerplay to take the 8-7 win.
