Annual Kincardine ski race, and loppet set for Jan. 14 at Stoney Island
Everyone is welcome to the annual Kincardine Ski Race, and the Community Loppet, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14, at Stoney Island Conservation Area, located on Bruce County Road 23 (B-line) about five kilometres north of the Kincardine hospital.
The fun five-kilometre race begins at 11 a.m., and is open to people of all ages (children do a short course with no hills).
The fifth annual community loppet begins at 2 p.m. This is a leisurely tour around the trails at Stoney Island for all age groups, from beginners to experts – “just do it” at your own pace – led by experts who will offer free advice! One group will do about two kilometres on flat terrain, and the other group will do about four kilometres and take in two small hills.
If you don’t have skis and boots, borrow a set (no charge) from the club hut for the loppet.
There is no admission cost for these events, parking is free, and there will be hot apple cider available afterward in the Kincardine Cross-Country Ski Club Hut.
If the weather forces cancellation, alternative arrangements will be posted on the club's website
www.angelfire.com/co/kccsc/ or the Facebook page or the notice boards in Penetangear and Bean’s Bistro, or contact Glen at 519-396-6552 or John at 519-396-3543.
