The Kincardine Montgomery Ford Midget girls continue battling away in the playdowns, and had a regular season game to clean up this past week.
Wednesday night, the girls and some parents travelled to Chatsworth to take on TCDMHA. The team took a bus which seemed the safe and economical choice, given the type of winter we've been having lately.
The Kinucks kept things steady by scoring a goal in each period and, more importantly, maintaining a shut-out for a 3-0 win, giving the girls a six-point lead so far in the playdowns.
Sunday, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, the Ford girls (missing two regular centres) faced the Markdale Shooting Stars "B" team for a league game.
After a scoreless first period, the teams stayed even, ending the second in a 1-1 tie. However, Markdale owned the third period, as they out-smarted and out-shot the Kinucks, scoring two goals to take a 3-1 lead.
With only 60 seconds remaining, the Kinucks pulled their goalie and tried to pick up a late goal, but Markdale scored the easy empty-net goal to take a 4-1 win.
Kincardine scorers in the two games were: Ashley McConnell -1; Madison McBride - 1; Megan Stewart-Kemp - 2.
The team has two playdown games this week and then is headed for Brantford this weekend to play in the Walter Gretzky tournament.
