Kincardine hosts BAA track and field championships
Kincardine hosted the Bluewater Athletics Association (BAA) track and field championships, Wednesday at the Davidson Centre.
Hundreds of athletes from across the Bluewater District School Board area competed in running races on the track, as well as field events, including running long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, javelin, and high jump.
Local athletes competed well and several qualified for the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) championships, slated for this week (May 17-18) at the Davidson Centre, Kincardine.
Among the BAA champions are the following athletes from Kincardine District Secondary School (KDSS):
- Jennelle Smeltzer, open girls, 1,500-metre steeplechase
- Avery Fitzgerald, senior girls 3,000-metre race
- Bethany Wilken, senior girls 800-metre race and senior girls 1,500-metre race
- KDSS won the senior boys 4X100-metre relay
- Brennan Long, junior boys javelin
- Madelyn Eybergen, junior girls high jump, junior girls 80-metre hurdles, junior girls 300-metre hurdles
- Slayde Millar, junior girls triple jump
- Liam Fitzgerald, midget boys 3,000-metre race and midget boys 1,500-metre race
