Bill Molnar of Kincardine wins grand prize at Fish Kincardine Derby
Bill Molnar of Kincardine may have been asking his wife, Diane Wylds-Molnar, for some pointers on how to catch the big fish at the Fish Kincardine Derby.
She won last year's grand prize of a $5,000 shopping spree at Kincardine Canadian Tire, with a 19.96-pound trout. Friday (May 26), he reeled in a 17.22-pound lake trout, to win the grand prize this year.
Don Wyatt of Walkerton had the largest salmon, with a 14.46-pound Chinook, while Paul Farmiloe of Georgetown had a 16.88-pound lake trout to take that category. Each man won a $1,000 shopping spree at Lake Huron Rod and Gun in Underwood.
There were 244 registered anglers at the derby this year, with a total of 468 fish caught, including 398 trout and 70 salmon.
Following Wyatt's winning salmon, the top 10 included:
- 13.75-pound Chinook caught by Jim LeGrand of Tiverton
- 13.14-pound Chinook caught by Shawn Aitken of Harriston
- 12.5-pound Chinook caught by David Bedford of Stratford
- 12 -pound Chinook caught by John Diehl of Hanover
- 11.38-pound Chinook caught by Doug Hahn of Elmira
- 11.02-pound Chinook caught by Mike Hahn of Heidelberg
- 10.2-pound Chinook caught by Bill Wyatt of Walkerton
- 10.1-pound Chinook caught by Randy Hyatt of Walkerton
- 9.96-pound Chinook caught by Ernie Krajar of Elmwood
Behind Molnar and Farmiloe in the top 10 for trout, were:
- 16.4 -pound lake trout caught by Justin Wdowiak of Port Elgin
- 16.34-pound lake trout caught by Derek Griffiths of Kincardine
- 15.88-pound lake trout caught by Ernest Ackert of Kincardine
- 15.62-pound lake trout caught by Chris Lucas of Corunna
- 15.44-pound lake trout caught by Brian Watson of Kitchener
- 15.36-pound lake trout caught by Ben Alexander of Kincardine
- 15.22-pound lake trout caught by Paul Bester of Kincardine
- 15.13-pound lake trout caught by Jim Drummond of Markdale
The derby began Friday, May 19, and wrapped up Sunday, May 28, at noon, with the awards presented Sunday afternoon at the Bruce Steakhouse.
