KDSS senior girls miss CWOSSA basketball championship by one point
It was a heart-breaking end to the Kincardine District Secondary School senior girls basketball season, as they won the CWOSSA semi-final against Wellington Heights, but lost the final to Woodland, by one point, Friday night.

The girls won the BAA title, advancing to CWOSSA which was hosted by KDSS at the high school in Kincardine and at Walkerton District Community School, Friday and Saturday.

The seniors had a slow start to their semi-final game against Wellington Heights Secondary School of Mount Forest, Friday afternoon. The bleachers were packed and noisy as the girls ended half-time down 12-9.

KDSS picked up the pace in the second half, rousting Wellington Heights and turning the game around, on a three-pointer by Ariel Luinstra at the start of the third quarter. By the end of the game, the seniors had won, 44-24, advancing to the gold-medal game against Woodland Christian High School of Breslau.

The girls worked hard and played well, but the final was 44-43 for Woodland, leaving KDSS in second place.

Meanwhile, the junior girls lost their first game to Rockway Mennonite College of Kitchener, by a close 35-32, and played their second game against Delhi District Secondary School, losing that match, 47-26.

Wellington Heights went on to win the junior CWOSSA title and advances to OFSAA in Timmins next week, along with the Woodland Christian seniors.
