Wolves and Crushers trade home wins on the weekend

The Ripley Wolves and Shallow Lake Crushers traded home wins on the weekend, to open the WOAA Sr. ‘A’ final.

Friday night, the Wolves were shell-shocked in the early going, down 4-1 after the first period in Shallow Lake. They battled back in the second, but couldn’t get all the way there, losing 6-4.

Goals were scored by Tim Dwinnell, Mark Stanley (2) and Jordan Turcotte. Assists went to Drew Davidson (3), Jeremy McQuillin and Cody Britton.

Kurt Edwards started in the Wolves net and stopped 27 shots. He was replaced by Jason Reid for a breather in the first, but returned for the second period to hold the fort while the Wolves attempted their comeback.

In a penalty-filled affair Saturday night in Ripley, the Wolves returned the favour, netting four powerplay goals in the second period after the teams played to a scoreless draw in the first.

Travis VanGaver, Mark Stanley, Davidson and Britton put the Wolves ahead to stay with the man-advantage, while assists went to Tyler McCarthy (2), Nick Locking, Brian Stanley, Brett Catto, McQuillin and VanGaver.

In the third, the teams traded goals as the Wolves secured the 6-2 win. McQuillin and Britton scored for the Wolves, with assists going to VanGaver, McCarthy and Catto.

Jason Reid stopped 26 shots for the win.

Game 3 goes Friday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound, at 8:30 p.m., with Game 4 back at the Ripley Arena, Saturday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. Games 5-7 have yet to be scheduled.
