Golf season has arrived with open houses at Ainsdale and Somerhill
The snow is melting away and the temperatures are getting warmer, which means golf season has arrived.

Another good indication is the open houses, slated for this weekend, at Ainsdale Golf Course and Somerhill Golf Club.

The sister courses, run by the Mackay family, will open their doors, welcoming everyone to enjoy appetizers, and a meet-and-greet with owners Allan, Kathy and Brad Mackay and golf professional Joey Rettinger, as well as registration, information, and prizes for members.

Friday night, from 6-8 p.m., Brad and his staff invite the public to the open house at Somerhill, located between Kincardine and Tiverton on Highway 21. This nine-hole course lies in a scenic, rolling terrain on the shores of Lake Huron, and you are treated to some wonderful views during your round. The plush fairways and greens are always in excellent condition.

From the championship tees, the course measures 5,700 yards, long enough to challenge the best golfers. The large number of water hazards in play throughout the course makes sure that things always stay interesting and you can never afford to sit back and lose focus.

Saturday afternoon, from 2-4 p.m., Allan and Kathy and their staff invite the public to the open house at Ainsdale, located south of Kincardine, just off Highway 21. This 18-hole course also offers some magnificent views while paying a round in this scenic, rolling terrain on the shores of Lake Huron. The plush fairways and greens are in excellent condition, benefiting from a fully-automated and computerized irrigation system.

From the championship tees, the course measures 6,442 yards, and provides some major water and sand hazards to challenge the best golfers. This is particularly true on the large and undulating greens, which are known for putting fast and rarely delivering a straight putt.

Throughout the season, there are many tournaments in play at Ainsdale. Men's night is featured every Thursday afternoon and evening, while the women's league meets every Tuesday throughout the week. League play begins in May.

Whether you're up for a round of nine holes, or 18, Ainsdale meets your needs.

And remember: If you are a member of one golf course, you can play the sister course for half-price.
