Electronic voting okayed by one voter; another says it's for younger people
To the Editor:
RE: “More readers have concerns about electronic voting system”
I have spoken with Kincardine clerk Donna MacDougall about the Internet method of voting in the municipal election.
As it turns out, the website was smarter than I gave it credit for.
It knew that I lived in Tiverton, thus Ward 3. Consequently, it knew that I was nominally entitled to vote for mayor, up to four councillors-at-large, up to two school trustees and one Ward 3 councillor.
It also knew that Randy Roppel was acclaimed in Ward 3 so I was no longer entitled to vote for a Ward 3 councillor. The two English public school trustees were also acclaimed, so I had no vote there.
Therefore, by the time I had voted for mayor and up to four councillors-at-large, my only real choices left were to go back to the previous race (for mayor) or submit my ballot.
This is perfectly correct and I understand now that my thinking wasn’t right. I was not entitled to vote for any other positions on council.
Sorry for any extra burden I put on the clerk. I hope nobody else had the same problem I did.

Being a senior citizen, my hearing is not good, so I had trouble trying to vote by telephone.
Being computer illiterate, same problem.
This voting system seems to be set up for the younger generation. Forget the older people.
